Spain's packaging EPR framework (Real Decreto 1055/2022) requires producers placing more than 50,000 kg of packaging on the Spanish market annually to register with MITECO, join a compliance scheme (ECOEMBES for household packaging), and submit annual declarations.

Shopify sellers shipping to Spain must track cumulative packaging weight across all SKUs. Growing D2C brands often cross the threshold faster than expected — especially with heavy primary and shipment packaging.
